Free Your Mind

Free Your Mind

With this article, we begin a new series of articles inspired by my book Free Your Mind. This book is all about freeing our minds from difficult ways of thinking: anxiety, depression, insecurity, guilt, and more. There is no greater way God has helped me than by teaching me to set my mind on godly things!

In Chapter 1 of my book, I share the following verse written the Apostle Paul:

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8:5–6

In this passage, Paul tells us that the mind of sinful nature produces death. But when we allow our thoughts to be controlled by the Spirit, we come to enjoy life and peace!
At times I have experienced thoughts that have led to temptation and defeat, and thoughts that have drawn me into worry, anxiety, and discouragement. As God has taught me to battle my temptation and selfishness by setting my mind on His love and righteousness, it has brought me incredible joy and freedom!

In the passage below, Paul further explains how we can set our minds:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and very pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4–5, emphasis added

We need to take captive every thought we have, making it obedient to Christ. This leads to the freedom and joy we all seek.

God gives us this great promise in the Old Testament:

“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Jeremiah 31:33

God Himself will put His law in our minds and hearts—what a privilege! And the more we seek to set our minds on what God wants, the more we will enjoy the wonderful fruit of growth and change. Dear brothers and sisters, let’s free our minds and focus them on the truths and blessings of God!
