Kevin has been working in the full-time ministry for more than 15 years. He attended Duke University on a football scholarship and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While in school, he met and married Elizabeth Laing, and the two worked together in campus ministries at Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and N. C. State.
In 2000, the Thompsons moved to Atlanta, where they spent 3 years serving a thriving student ministry at Georgia Tech. In 2003, the couple moved to Athens, GA where Kevin served as the campus minister for the Athens Church of Christ for 8 years. Through the power of God, the campus ministry in Athens developed into a zealous, loving, and spiritual ministry of more than 100 student members, and hosted the International Campus Ministry Conference in Athens in 2011. Kevin played a key role in organizing the mission efforts to plant the Clemson Foothills Church in Clemson, SC. He continues to serve on the Southeast Mission’s Committee with a passion for planting, growing, and strengthening churches in the southeast.
Currently, Kevin serves as the lead minister for the Greater Wilmington Church, a church that the Thompsons planted in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2012. Kevin recently received his master’s degree in Christian Ministry from Abilene Christian University. Kevin and Elizabeth have 4 children: Cassidy (10), Blake (8), Avery (7), and Sawyer (3).

I am grateful for the many battles that God has helped me to claim victory in for His glory, but as I creep dangerously close to 40, hit a new gear with family and church demands… I know that the stakes are higher than ever. The battles of the 30’s and 40’s are tough. As I get stretched in so many directions, I am constantly reminded that God MUST BE MY STRENGTH. Sam has always inspired me to be a warrior for the Lord.
